ReLegal is redefining the market for "contract attorneys" throughout Texas. ReLegal is not a law firm; it is also not a staffing or recruiting agency. Rather, ReLegal is a group of exceptionally experienced and educated freelance attorneys, who for various reasons have chosen to step outside traditional law firms and in-house legal departments to practice law. For freelance attorneys, ReLegal offers a place to call home. A place that includes access to substantive legal work on a temporary contract basis, among a network of like-minded, self-motivated legal professionals genuinely interested in maintaining a work-life balance. As one of ReLegal's freelance attorneys, you maintain control. ReLegal simply provides you with access and clerical support. For law firms, ReLegal offers access as well: to this group of exceptional freelance attorneys and their excellent work product, without the commitment or overhead attendant in hiring a full-time associate.
About ReLegal's Founders
Although both lawyers and moms living less than three miles from one another, Melissa and Kim did not meet until 2012. Melissa, the mother of two children ages five and eight, formerly practiced in the Washington, D.C. office of King & Spalding LLP. As Melissa watched every one of the 16 women in her starting class exit the firm, including herself, she realized there must be another way for smart, highly achieved women to practice law. Kim, the mother of three young children, formerly practiced as a litigation associate with Lindow Stephens Treat LLP and as the Assistant General Counsel of SWBC in San Antonio, Texas. In 2011, following the birth of her second child, Kim began practicing law on an independent contractor basis. The flexibility this position has allowed her has been rewarding beyond measure. Both avid runners, Melissa and Kim's paths finally crossed in 2012. They have many things in common, including, most importantly, a genuine desire to see women, and especially mothers, succeed in the practice of law.
Melissa became the first ReLegal alumni when she decided to relaunch her full-time legal career and join Gardere Wynne & Sewell in Dallas as the Director of Risk and Knowledge Management. Kim continues to own and operate ReLegal Group and to grow her own practice as a freelance attorney.
